He is survived by his wife, Valerie Blankenship Horn of De Queen; one son and daughter-in-law, Robert Allen and Shelly Horn of Enterprise, Alabama; five sisters, Jean Kitchens and Helen Davis both of Foreman, Deanie Deal of Pilot Point, Texas, Geneva Rhodes of Foreman and Dwan Witten of Tioga, Texas; three grandchildren, Steven Horn, Chaise Horn and Rose Horn; two great granddaughters and a number of nieces and nephews. Oliver was youngest child of Guy Walter and Opal Henry Matthews, born July 10, 1945, in De Queen.
Jesse was born on February 16, 1986 in Mt. Pleasant, Texas. He was a contract laborer shade tree mechanic and a jack of all trades, and was a member of Ministries of Harvest Temple. He was a content and humble man with what some would view as very little. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, May and Charles Smith and Howard and Shirley Tollett; Grandmother Madelene Russell, his father, Howard D. Tollett, one uncle, Gary Tollett and a very special aunt and uncle, Jim and Lennie Crenshaw. Mr. Smith was preceded in death by his parents, Reginald Glen and Audrey Hill Smith and twin granddaughters, Mabel and Lyla. He and Roberta married on July 8, 1963 in Morgantown, West Virginia. He was a jovial and gregarious friend and neighbor who never met a stranger. He was in cabinet sales in the Oklahoma City area for more than 3 decades.

Mr. Gaines Harold Southworth, age 85, resident of Fayetteville, Arkansas, and former long-time resident of De Queen, Arkansas, passed away Tuesday, November 8, 2022, at the Washington Regional Medical Center in Fayetteville. Kay Sims Short, age 62, a resident of De Queen, Arkansas passed peacefully into the arms of her heavenly father, on Monday, November 14, 2022. Wilma Inez Balch Arnold, born January 11, 1930, in the Doyle Community, 8 ½ miles east of Nashville, AR. Born the first of three children to Walter and Della Myrick Balch. She passed away in Nashville on Sunday, November 20, 2022. Maria will be greatly missed by friends and family; however, she will be remembered as a beacon of Love, Faith, and Hope.

Mr. Smith was preceded in death by his parents, John Wesley and Kate Slaton Smith; his wife, Mary Jeanette Kitchens Smith; one grandson, P.J. Smith and five sisters, Linda Sue McWhorter, Betty Jo Ligon, Hattie Sullivan, Bessie Tabler and Pauline Dossey. He was preceded in death by his parents, Sim Luther and Cora Bell Killian Chandler; his wife, Glenda Kesterson Chandler; one sister, Thelma Dawada Cupples; one brother-in-law, Everette Cupples.
Ernestine was born on February 7, 1940, in De Queen, Arkansas, to Charles Wesley and Annie Lavina Humphrey Westbrook. Early, Ernestine married Lloyd Franklin Young, and to this union, four daughters were born. Ernestine and Lloyd shared almost forty years before his passing in 1993. Ernestine worked ten years for Lane Poultry as a USDA Inspector, and for many years, maintained her poultry farm in Gillham. Lloyd owned and operated Lloyd Young Catch Crews, and following his death, Ernestine continued the business for a total of more than thirty years catching chickens in our area.

He was preceded in death by his father, Roy Joe Akin; and a daughter, Adrienne Butler. Joe and his family then moved back to his childhood home of Winthrop for a school year before moving to Broken Bow, Oklahoma, where he taught and later served as school principal for twenty years. In addition to teaching, Joe was always furthering his own education. He spent so much time in school that his young nephew Bink Thornton would always ask him, “Uncle Joe, what are you going to be when you grow up? ” He obtained additional certifications and administrative degrees from Southeastern Oklahoma State University in Durant, OK; the University of Oklahoma in Norman Oklahoma; East Texas State University in Commerce Texas, and the University of Arkansas in Little Rock. Joe Edward Bush, 90, passed away on July 13, 2022 at his home in De Queen, Arkansas.
Mrs. Foran was a member of First United Methodist Church of Winthrop. She was very active in her church and loved assisting with the food drive. She also loved quilting, fishing and working in her flower beds. She enjoyed cooking for family and friends, playing horseshoes and bowling. Mrs. Foran loved to go camping at Patterson Shoals where she would enjoy a good game of volleyball.
She was born October 6, 1945 in Walsall, United Kingdom. She worked for De Queen Hospital and was a substitute teacher at De Queen public schools. In lieu of flowers, the family ask that memorial be made to the Cross Point Cowboy Church Chuckwagon, P.O. Box 1675, Nashville, Arkansas 71852. Mr. Jimmy Lee McWhorter, age 77, resident of Lockesburg, Arkansas, passed peacefully from this life on Sunday, October 23, 2022, surrounded by his family in the comfort of his home.
Mrs. Lansdell was born October 28, 1946 in New Boston, Texas. She loved spending time with family, being on the farm, and her church community. Guy was a member of New Mt. Zion Baptist Church where he preached and touched many lives. Those who knew him remember him by his wisdom, great sense of humor and his love for God and family. Guy was a loving husband, father, grandparent and a friend to everyone. They shared 56 years of love together and raised five children, William Roberts and wife, Sheri, Meredith Mills and Joseph, Jonathan Roberts and wife Hollie, Andrew Roberts and wife Ashley and Victoria Earnest and Wesley.
She also was very instrumental in strengthening Carl’s faith in God. Nea was always by Carl’s side and was his primary caregiver as he battled brain cancer. At the end her last words spoked to him were “Go with God Carl”. She is survived by her husband, Levi Martin of Wickes; her mother, Charlene Moss of Horatio, Arkansas; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Speedy L. And Regina Moss, all of Horatio; one sister and brother-in-law, Christina I. And Eric Knop of Wickes; her nieces and nephews, Braden, Jaxson, Treyton, Trenton, Bentley, Paisley, Tinzleigh, Thomas, Jaxston, Kelton, Skylar, Mason and Haisley; a brother-in-law, Gary Franks and a sister-in-law, Savannah Smith.
After 20 years in Broken Bow, he and his family returned to his first school district of Lockesburg Arkansas. He later served as Superintendent at the Winthrop Public Schools, before finishing his career as an Elementary School Principal in Talihina, Oklahoma. He retired in 1992 and returned with his wife and daughter to Lockesburg. Closing the door on his career, he spent his later years fishing, hunting, raising cattle, serving his Lord as an Elder in the local Cumberland Presbyterian Churches, and enjoying time with family.
Preceding Jean in death were her loving parents; her devoted husband of more than sixty-five years, Oscar Ball; two brothers, Harry Farris and Noble Farris; two sisters, Ida Mae Tedford and Lola Lockett; and a beloved great-granddaughter Valena Renee Stake. Ronald leaves to cherish his memory, his daughter Katie Lynn Howard; his son, James Ronald Howard; his mother, Madell Scudder; three grandchildren, Isaiah, Araiah and Arabella; and his sister, Beth Ann Parks. Ronald was born to Lynn and Madell Juanece Knight Howard on November 17, 1963, in Modesto, California.
After high school, Clarence went on to complete coal trade school. He faithfully served with the United States Army National Guard until his honorable discharge. He married the love of his life, Ruby Lee Noey, on January 15, 1966, in De Queen. Clarence and Ruby are members of Geneva Missionary Baptist Church in De Queen. He worked in different capacities over the years, including time as a mule-skid logger, EMT, and in construction.

Clarence never met a stranger and will be missed by so many. Betty leaves to cherish her memory, her son and daughter-in-law, Randy Walker, M.D. And Angie Walker of De Queen; her beloved grandson, Jackson “Precious” Walker of De Queen, to whom she was affectionately known as “Granny”; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Alice and Don Frost of Mena, and Jane and Ronnie Phillips of Huntsville; as well as nieces, nephews, other relatives, and a host of friends.
He enjoyed fishing, woodworking and playing music with family. Mr. Graves was preceded in death by his parents, Francis Marion and Marcella Elaine Sproul Graves. Mrs. Roberson enjoyed animals, the outdoors, her family and lending a helping hand to those in need. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Chandler Funeral Home of De Queen.
